I think it should be an LDIF like the one generated through the dump
command.

It should not due to changes in the configuration files and the manifest of
the tools jar.

You might though be able to just install ads 1.5.1-SNAPSHOT then move the
partition
over from 1.5.0 to the 1.5.1-SNAPSHOT into the respective position.  See if
this works.
I think that's your best shot.

Yes install the SNAPSHOT version.  Also you might be able to use the
apacheds-tools
in the 1.5.1-SNAPSHOT to dump what is inside 1.5.0 partitions.  Give that a
try too.
