Installation James 2.1.3 on Win2K: cannot find config.xml?

I installed James 2.1.3 on Windows 2000, ran it, stopped it with a CRTL-C
and the "config.xml" file is nowhere to be found...

What did I miss?

Here is a copy of the run in the "cmd" window. I checked the logs and
everythig looks OK but the config.xml is

That's not the case with the version(s) we're currently using.

I'll get the quickstart documented updated to mention this challenge.

I have not upgraded my James in a while, so I do not know if this was
already corrected, but...

In your original post, you stated that you shutdown James;
try starting James, then look for the directories and files WITHOUT
stopping James.

When I installed the version I am running now, Phoenix would delete
the extracted files (if they were not modified) when it shut down.

Maybe the space in java home? You should also try not deleting the entire
directory but only the content of the work directory and restart. Another
mysql jar in the classpath? As I remember I experienced something similar.

RE: Installation James 2.1.3 on Win2K: cannot find config.xml?

Posted by "Noel J. Bergman" <no...@devtech.com>.
If you got:

 Using PHOENIX_HOME: C:\james-2.1.3
 Using PHOENIX_TMPDIR: C:\james-2.1.3\temp
 Using JAVA_HOME: "c:\PROGRA~1\j2sdk1.4.1"

 Phoenix 4.0.1

 James 2.1.3
 Remote Manager Service started plain:4555
 POP3 Service started plain:110
 SMTP Service started plain:25
 NNTP Service started plain:119
 Fetch POP Disabled

Then James is working. If it were not working, you would not get that
message. If it is working, then there exists
C:\james-2.1.3\apps\james\SAR-INF\config.xml. You can test to see if it is
working by typing "telnet localhost 4555" in another command window.

I downloaded a copy of James to a Windows XP system (I don't have a Win2K
system available), extracted the ZIP to C:\, then:

C:\>cd james-2.1.3\bin
C:\>james-2.1.3\bin>run

Using PHOENIX_HOME: C:\james-2.1.3
Using PHOENIX_TMPDIR: C:\james-2.1.3\temp

James 2.1.3
Remote Manager Service started plain:4555
POP3 Service started plain:110
SMTP Service started plain:25
NNTP Service started plain:119
Fetch POP Disabled

So obviously it works. What did you do differently?

I tried already 3 times: deleted everything and unzipped all the files
again.

No change.

Meaning deleted the WHOLE directory created by unzipping the distribution.
Unzipped to a new directory, ran it.

3 times.

What do you mean TRIED to delete? You should be successful deleting the
work\ directory tree, unless you not have permissions to delete on the
system.

It may be that the files didn't unpack properly. Try downloading again.

I have only 2 directories: "d:\james\james-2.1.3\apps\james\log\" and

No SAR-INF directory and no config files.

My *guess* is that the installation process is aborted because the files in
the work directory cannot be deleted... My *guess* is that the security
policy is not setup properly for Windows.

These error messages don't look very promising to me...

SAR-INF is a directory.

You should have d:\james\james-2.1.3\apps\james.sar. When Phoenix starts to
load, it should create d:\james\james-2.1.3\apps\james\ (a directory.
Underneath that, you should have d:\james\james-2.1.3\apps\james\SAR-INF\ (a
