nutch 0.7.2 requires JAVA_HOME but not SDK

Hello,

The nutch documentation seems to imply that it works with only Java
1.4 rather than 1.4 and later. So, I experimented with various runtime
vendors and versions on Windows and Linux. The crawls all ran
smoothly.

Though one thing seems puzzling. Nutch does not compile anything and
in fact has no trouble using the JRE (as opposed to the SDK). However,
Nutch requires that JAVA_HOME is set. Is there a reason for this?
Could it not just use the java found in the PATH?

Cheers,
Alex

$ bin/nutch admin ../crawl/db -create
Error: JAVA_HOME is not set.

$ bin/nutch inject ../crawl/db -urlfile ../crawl/seedurls
Error: JAVA_HOME is not set.
