Deck.gl scatterplot in the previous version of superset (5) you could switch off the Legend, In version 6 this is no longer possible from the designer, the Legend is now permanently overlaid on the map, and takes up have to the display size, any direction to remove it would be great?

Is this resolved in 6.1 @dosu?

Hi @Skyhikeeper! I'm [Dosu](https://go.dosu.dev/dosubot) and I'm helping the Apache Superset team.
The deck.gl scatterplot doesn't have a dedicated "show/hide legend" checkbox. Instead, the intended way to hide the legend is to set the **Legend Position** control to **"None"** in the chart's customize panel — the Legend component checks for that value and skips rendering entirely [[1]](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset-frontend/plugins/legacy-preset-chart-deckgl/src/components/Legend.tsx#L99-L101).
That said, Superset 6.0.0 introduced a regression affecting deck.gl Arc and Scatter chart legends due to changes in the color control system [[2]](https://github.com/apache/superset/pull/35112). The reported issues include legends not rendering correctly and charts migrated from 5.x behaving unexpectedly. A fix was proposed in [PR #35112](https://github.com/apache/superset/pull/35112), though it may not have been merged into the release you're running.
**What to try:**
1. Look for the **"Legend Position"** dropdown in the chart customize panel and set it to **"None"** [[3]](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset-frontend/plugins/legacy-preset-chart-deckgl/src/utilities/Shared_DeckGL.jsx#L182).
2. If the "None" option isn't available or doesn't work, you're likely hitting the 6.0 regression — upgrading to a newer 6.x patch release (if available) that includes the fix from PR #35112 should resolve it.
3. As a temporary workaround, you could apply a CSS override to hide the legend element on the rendered chart.

@rusackas The specific PR that was meant to address this — [PR #35112](https://github.com/apache/superset/pull/35112), which fixes the deck.gl legend visibility regression from 6.0 (issue #34822) — is **still open and not merged**, so it would not be in 6.1.
That said, several related deck.gl legend fixes *did* land in the 6.0→6.1 timeframe, including fixes for legend swatch rendering in Chromium [[1]](https://github.com/apache/superset/pull/40784), categorical scatterplot color preservation in multi-layer charts [[2]](https://github.com/apache/superset/pull/41490), and legend click/interaction behavior [[3]](https://github.com/apache/superset/pull/41830) [[4]](https://github.com/apache/superset/pull/41831). These may partially improve the experience, but the core backward-compatibility fix for the `color_scheme_type` handling (which breaks charts migrated from 5.x) is still pending in PR #35112.
It might be worth reviewing whether PR #35112 is still the right approach or if the fix should be broken into smaller pieces to get it merged.

In Superset 6, the control panel for several Deck.gl plugins (`legacy-preset-chart-deckgl`) was reorganized, and the explicit boolean toggle for the legend was omitted from the designer controls, leaving the legend component permanently rendered on top of the map container.
You can hide the legend completely using either of the following methods:
### Method 1: Hide via Dashboard Custom CSS (Cleanest Solution)
If the Deck.gl chart is placed on a dashboard, you can hide the legend overlay using CSS:
1. Open the dashboard in Edit mode.
2. Click the three dots menu at the top right and select **Edit CSS**.
3. Add the following CSS rule targeting the Deck.gl legend component:
```css
/* Hide Deck.gl map legend */
.deckgl-container .dupa,
.deckgl-container [data-testid="legend"] {
display: none !important;
}
```
*(In the Deck.gl plugin source `Legend.tsx`, the root container is rendered with styled-component class `.dupa` and `data-testid="legend"`).*
If you want to hide it only for a specific chart, target its slice ID:
```css
#slice_123 .deckgl-container [data-testid="legend"] {
display: none !important;
}
```
### Method 2: Edit Chart JSON Metadata
If you need the legend hidden directly within the standalone chart view:
1. Navigate to **Manage -> Charts** (or `/chart/list/`), find your Deck.gl Scatterplot chart, and click **Edit Chart**.
2. In the modal, locate the **Parameters** JSON field.
3. Look for `"legend_position"`. Change its value to `null`:
```json
"legend_position": null
```
4. Save the chart metadata. When `legend_position` is null, `Legend.tsx` does not attach position styling and skips rendering the category entries.
