[VOTE] Apache POI 5.0.0 release (RC1)

Hi *,

I've prepared artifacts for the release of Apache POI 5.0.0 (RC1).

The most notable changes in this release are:

* Upgrade to ECMA-376 5th edition (transitional) schemas - expect API breaks when using XmlBeans directly
* Change artifact names of poi-/ooxml-schemas to poi-ooxml-lite/full
* Upgrade to XMLSec 2.2.1
* updated dependencies to Bouncycastle 1.68, Commons-Codec 1.15, Commons-Compress 1.20
* XWPF - improvements in table and paragraph
* XSLF - improvements for paragraph
* provide JigSaw modules
* removed dependencies to jaxb
* removed deprecated code
* ooxml-security is part of poi-ooxml-full (known as ooxml-schemas) now and won't be provided separately
* new experimental DeferredSXSSFWorkbook which avoids temp files by lazily generating rows (see DeferredGeneration in poi-examples)

https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/poi/5.0.0-RC1/

Please vote to release the artifacts.
The vote keeps open for 72hrs.
Planned release announcement date is Friday, 2021-01-20.

Here is my +1

The SVN repo is open again.

In terms of the binaries, they seem fine to me.

Not a big deal if we choose to update the docs on the core web site after the release.

[RESULT] [VOTE] Apache POI 5.0.0 release (RC1)

Posted by Andreas Beeker <ki...@apache.org>.
The vote has passed with 4x +1 from POI PMCs.

I'll now update the release notes, update the javadocs on the web page, release the artifacts and announce it on Monday or Tuesday, depending on Maven-Central availability.

The binaries look good to me. POI 5.0 is going to be a great milestone.

Posted by Dominik Stadler <do...@gmx.at>.
Hi,

+1 from me,

I compared the release artifacts to 4.1.2, contents seems to be fine.

Possible "compatibility notes" for the release-notes if we roll them once
more:

* Some known issues with the new XDDFChart interfaces, e.g.
https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=65016
* some classes moved between packages for the JDK 9+ support, e.g.
ExtractorFactory, so imports need to be adjusted
* some smaller changes are necessary when code is using the low-level
CT... classes

Thanks... Dominik.
