ISIS in Google Summer of code 2013

Hello everyone

I have received communication from Google that I have been chosen into
Google Summer of Code. My special thanks to Dan for helping me with all the
queries I had. Congratulations to Dimuthu Upeksha also for getting into
GSoC. Looking forward to a great summer of coding and a longer association
with ISIS.

Thanks

Thanks both for your kind words, but well done also for you both putting in
strong proposals. Of course, the work for us all only really starts now :-)

*For those reading this wondering what we're on about... *

Dimuthu and Bhargav are both participating in this year's Google Summer of
Code [1]

Dimuthu put in a proposal [2] to build a generic viewer for Isis running on
Android (per [3]), while Bhargav put in a proposal [4] to build a generic
viewer for Isis written in Javascript (per [5]).

In both cases these viewers will be Restful clients, running against the
Restful Objects viewer in Isis [6], implementing the Restful Objects spec
[7].

Both have made a good start, and Dimuthu has got so far as starting a
github project for his work [8]. (Bhargav, you might want to do likewise
if you haven't already?)

I'm sure that both Dimuthu and Bhargav would appreciate input and feedback
on their projects as they continue. So do chip in any ideas you might have
as to what you would like to see in such viewers.

*Dimuthu, Bhargav:*

Can I ask (and I'm think you know this) to keep all communication on
dev@isis.a.o. Do also feel free to cc: users@isis.a.o if you think it's
relevant. We may also do some skype calls later on, though I don't think
there's any immediate need for one just yet (at least, not from my point of
view).

Also, you are both in the same timezone, and - although the technologies
you are using are different - there are similarities to the projects, not
least in terms of getting to grips with the Restful Objects API. You might
find it beneficial to email each other directly. I don't mind that at all,
but if I you, do also cc: the mailing lists too.... the "Apache way" is
that for project correspondence to be through the mailing lists.

Bhargav... it's great to see you asking about how to verify the release for
the vote [9] currently under way. Dimuthu... if you have time in the next
day or so, you might also want to do this. It'd be useful for you to
understand how releases are performed at Apache.

Finally, one other thing you could both look at. You'll see that I'm
releasing the v2.0.0 of the isis-viewer-restfulobjects. And, nominally,
this supports v1.0.0 of the RO spec [7]. However, most of the tests still
need to be written [10]; and I'm sure that missing test coverage means that
there are some as-yet-unknown bugs/omissions in Isis' RO implementation.
I'd really like it if we could close the gap on this over the summer.

So, a task you could do is see if you could choose one or two of those
tests and complete them, and then submit a patch. The process to do so is
documented here [11]. You'll learn a little more about the RO spec, as
well as about our contributor process.

Cheers
Dan

Hi all

Yes. Dan should get the total credit. I'm really happy to get involve
in ISIS project and as well as in Apache community. And
congratulations to Bhargav. Hope we all will get great experience and
knowledge by working in open source field in this summer

Thank you
