Thanks Lars, nice summary. 

As I said, backporting a feature should be on the ground of whether people are interested in supporting it or not based on enough interest. As always, there is risk to bringing new code, and we have to asses risk vs gain. This is business as usual. 

Resolving this as won't fix. Feel free to reopen, or use the attached patch if you need it.
