[I] [Bug] Unknown backend_name leaks ModuleNotFoundError instead of a clear ValueError [mahout]
400Ping opened a new issue, #1506:
URL: https://github.com/apache/mahout/issues/1506
### What
`QuMat.__init__` builds the backend module path from `backend_name` and imports it with `importlib.import_module`. When the name is not one of the supported backends, the `ModuleNotFoundError` from the import leaks out instead of a clear error:
```python
from qumat import QuMat
QuMat({"backend_name": "pennylane", "backend_options": {}})
# ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'qumat.pennylane_backend'
```
**Actual result:** `ModuleNotFoundError` pointing at an internal module name.
**Expected result:** a `ValueError` that names the unsupported backend and lists the supported ones (`qiskit`, `cirq`, `amazon_braket`), for example:
```
ValueError: Unsupported backend_name 'pennylane'. Supported backends: amazon_braket, cirq, qiskit
```
**Where:** `qumat/qumat.py` (`QuMat.__init__`). Add a test in `testing/qumat/` for the error path.
### Environment
- OS: macOS 14 / Linux
- Python version: 3.12
- Qumat version: 0.6.0 (PyPI) and `main` at 2d94f8fbd
_Part of the Apache Mahout hackathon at Community over Code Glasgow 2026 (Track A, Qumat). Comment here to claim it._

Hi Jie-Kai, I’d like to focus on the Qumat/Python lane. Is #1506 still available for me to take? I saw PR #1514 was closed without merging. If the issue is still open, could you assign it to me and let me know whether you’d prefer I start fresh or build on that prior attempt? Thanks!

I noticed that PR #1514 has already been opened for this issue. Should I hold off on working on the same fix and look for another issue to contribute to? Thank you!

I’m interested in contributing to this issue as part of the hackathon. I’ll first reproduce the reported error, then add validation for unsupported backend names and a regression test to ensure a clear `ValueError` lists the supported backends. Could you please assign this issue to me so I can work on it? Thank you!

I will leave it for the maintainers who went to Glasgow to assign it since I don't know who will be there
