"subclassing" a component

There was a mail in this subject but without answer.

Is it possible to create a subclass of a component?
What happens if a subclass a component with template? Should I copy the template of the superclass to the subclass?

Thanks,
Norbi

Starter kit / demo portal

Posted by Andrew Pym <aj...@swiftdsl.com.au>.
I have seen a number of mentions in the list archive about
people wanting to create a demo portal such as the .NET starter kits.

Has this actually happened anywhere yet for tapestry?

I am not talking about vlib or the workbench.

Regards

Andrew

The general recommended way to "subclass" and specialize a component is
to wrap it. In other words, write a custom component which
encapsulates the one you want to "subclass". This does require a bit
more work if the wrapped component has a lot of parameters you want to
pass through, I think, but it is the best way to do what you want I
believe.

Components do not have inheritance. The Java classes for components may use inheritance to
streamline implementation of a component, but there's no direct inheritance for components. There's
nothing in the XML for indicating a "super-comoponent".

On the other hand, aggregation is easy in Tapestry.
