Summary: Apache2 is lacking on q/a content-negotiation tests
           Product: Apache httpd-2
           Version: 2.2.4
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: P1
         Component: Build
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: jose@w3.org

Hi!

Could it be possible to include more content-negotation
related tests in your qa process for Apache?

Bug 41960[1] has a simple test scenario that used to work
on v1.1.3 and stopped doing so on v2.2.4. It could have been
caught early on and solved by people who know the code better
than I do :)

Many Thanks in advance from all of us Apache users and develoeprs
who use content-negotation.

-jose

With all due respect, the link I gave to bug 4960 has a pertinent and
reproducible content-negotiation test scenario that used to work on v1.3.x
and stopped working on v2.2.4. Following initial feedback from you, I submitted
a patch there and have no idea when the Apache team will review it.

This bug could have been previously detected following that or a similar simple
test scenario. I'd would be glad to submit a patch for your test suite so that
this cases can be part of them in the future. However, I've no idea what kind
of test suite you use for testing the Apache server. It doesn't seem to be
related to the test subdirectory.

If you could give more pointers to code and documentation to your QA test
suite, I'd be more than happy to contribute new code for these tests. It would
save me more time if they would be tested before each release. Meanwhile, the
most I can do is to point out the lack of content negotiation testing that has
given arise to these bugs.

Cheers,

-jose

Patches welcome. But in the absence of a patch, or at least a specific
proposal, this isn't really a matter for bugzilla. Of course, if you're about
to add a patch, feel free to reopen!
