About the project status

Hi,

I'm considering to use Apache Bloodhound for multiple project
migrating Trac. However, I couldn't get the picture from
http://bloodhound.apache.org/ . Sometimes, old document in incubator
period makes me confuse.

I know the version 0.7 was released on 2013-08-23 and and it seems
the development is not active recently.
http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/bloodhound-commits/

Though I'm using Trac 1.0.2-trunk, I want to migrate to stable
version. Can you show me the Apache Bloodhound's road map for the
future?

thanks,
Tetsuya

Thank you for explaining current status which you're considering.

I'm not sure which is better architecture, but I agree with
Bloodhound's approach if it do work well.

I was surprised that some features from Bloodhound are trying to
backport. That's good future for both, I think.

I see. I know there're differences for the initial motivation/concept
between Trac and Apache Bloodhound. Then, I think Trac's "minimalistic
approach" should be changed to work with a modern situation in the
future. Anyway, I'm looking forward to updating Trac 1.0.2 and best of
luck to you.

thanks,
Tetsuya

The Multi-Project support in Trac 1.1.x is the same as what existed in
prior versions of Trac. It is the Multiple-Project, Multiple-Environment
strategy.

Bloodhound has Multiple-Project, Single-Environment support. Trac will
hopefully provide support for multiple projects in a single environment in
the future, but it isn't actively being worked on, and we haven't discussed
whether some or all of what has been introduced in Bloodhound would be
backported.

I have tried backporting some small changes from Bloodhound to Trac, and
hope to soon embark on backporting some bigger features in 1.1.x:

Olemis has backported some features, but the Trac devs still need to review
and discuss the changes:

I understand and I think the projects should be more closely integrated. At
least, that is an aim of mine. I would like to see BloodhoundSearchApi,
BloodhoundRelations and MultiProject support backported to Trac. Among
other things, doing so will make maintaining Bloodhound easier and
Bloodhound can then focus on providing features that go beyond Trac's aim
of providing a "minimalistic approach to web-based software project
management."

I believe that Bloodhound will always be based on Trac (it will not
permanently fork from the codebase), and we will aim to integrate changes
from the latest releases as soon as they are available. Trac 1.0.2 should
be available soon, based on the recent discussions on the TracDev mailing
list.

And, I have a question between Trac and Apache Bloodhound.

For example, multiple project support is now implementing on Trac-1.1,
then will be provided on Trac-1.2. Apache bloodhound has that, both
multiple project feature will be compatible in the future? I am a
little confused that Trac and Apache bloodhound go together or not
since some feature including in Apache bloodhound should be integrated
in Trac.

thanks,
Tetsuya

I'm looking forward to being integrated on 1.0.2. I know

Bloodhound is currently built on Trac 1.0.1.

The near term roadmap is,

Release 8 - needs to be created.
Release 9 - integrate changes from Trac 1.0.2 release.

You are right, there isn't much activity lately. The project could benefit
from more contributors. We would welcome additional contributions. There
are currently 3 Google Summer of Code students working on various projects
that will hopefully become part of Bloodhound.
