[jira] [Commented] (HBASE-28425) Allow specify cluster key without zookeeper in replication
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-28425?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17824962#comment-17824962 ]
Duo Zhang commented on HBASE-28425:
-----------------------------------
Ping [~ndimiduk]. I think here we could follow your proposed way, to add a prefix for the cluster key.
For example, if there is no prefix or the prefix is "zookeeper://", we will use the old ZkConnectionRegistry to connect to the remote cluster, if the prefix is "hbase://", we will use the RpcConnectionRegistry.
And also, we should change the way for getting region server list. Currently we rely on setting watchers on the region server list directory on the remote zookeeper. Since replication is in background, I think we could just rely on the Admin method, to get all the region servers from the active master of the remote cluster. If master is temporarily down, replication will be hang for some time if there is no region server available, but since replication is asynchronous, this is not a big deal, as if master is unavailable for a long time, the cluster will be in trouble too.
Thanks.

> When reviewing the usage of zookeeper in HBase, I found out that, we still rely on zookeeper when specifying the cluster key when setting up replication. If we want to completely hide zookeeper from outside a cluster, we should also remove this cluster key.
