Regarding To OpenOffice Base

I recently downloaded openoffice and am facing a problem as I want to
work on OpenOffice Base . The error is that it requires a JRE, but I have
this already. I installed another 32x - bit Java for openoffice but it is
still not working. The Base couldn't recognise the JRE . Please guide me
for the same

Vivek Sharma

You're right. That's an error.

The correct path for OpenOffice 4.1.15 is...
Tools > Options > OpenOffice > Java

The path I provided first was, as you said, LibreOffice.

I’m sorry, but why are you suggesting a LibreOffice path?

...and the other bits?

- I didn't check if the Java you're using is on the list. You're sysadmin
of your system.

- Has the installed 32-bit Java runtime passed its own self checks to
validate correctly functioning installation? Several Java's I've used have
those tests on their websites.

- Has the installed 32-bit Java been explicitly selected as the Java
runtime for OpenOffice to use by selecting it in Options (F12) >
LibreOffice > Advanced?

And also the additional diagnostic questions... OS and version used?
Windows, Mac, and Linux all have slightly different needs and ways to
identify what's currently installed.

Plus, version of OpenOffice? This is helpful to eliminate this as an odd
case related to the specific version/OS combination.

Just for the record, I have been using Base with 32-bit Zulu OpenJDK JRE
builds.

Hello Not_CrazyMiner

There's a lot of information that would make this simpler to diagnose for
you.

If using Windows, the OS is 64-bit.

OpenOffice is 32-bit and requires 32-bit Java.

You report installing 32-bit Java, then another, but not the products or
versions. And you don't say if the Java runtime was deliberately selected
after install by checking Options (F12) > LibreOffice > Advanced.

There's a list of known compatible versions of Java here,
https://www.openoffice.org/download/common/java.html..
Identify which one(s) you have and follow tests from each website for the
ones that are installed to confirm successful installation.

Per https://www.openoffice.org/download/common/java.html, "... Base relies
completely on Java technologies to run... ," so you're not going to have
Base at all and will be missing other OpenOffice features until this Java
problem is resolved.

For additional diagnosing please provide OS and version used, Windows, Mac,
and Linux all have slightly different needs and ways to identify what's
currently installed.

Version of OpenOffice is helpful to confirm this isn't an odd case related
to the specific version.
