[jira] Created: (DIREVE-62) write docs for how to use the JNDI provider
write docs for how to use the JNDI provider
-------------------------------------------
Key: DIREVE-62
URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DIREVE-62
Project: Directory Eve
Type: Task
Components: jndi-provider
Reporter: Alex Karasulu
Assigned to: Alex Karasulu
We need some documentation describing all the properties with some sample code perhaps from the test cases. We also need a nice matrix on all properties. It's also a good idea to update the website with all this new documentation in preparation for A/C as well.

I generated the Eve xdocs which I think answer the majority of your documentation questions. Here's the Eve subproject site:
http://www.apache.org/~akarasulu/eve-site/
You might want to take a look at the JNDI docs here:

1. To start eve and use your own specific properties do this:
java -jar eve/target/eve-SNAPSHOT.jar eve/eve.properties
2. To start eve as non-root and still listen to port 389 do this:
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 389 -i eth0 -j REDIRECT --to-port 10389
eve.properties requires something like this:
eve.net.ldap.port=10389
eve.net.ldaps.port=10636
NOTE: this doesn't affect local TCP requests coming from the same machine so your local test code or ldap viewer would still have to connect to 10389.

No worries I'm new too and am trying to figure out how to use it to do
this release where I've picked 0.8.0 as the version to release. Here
are the fixes that need to be completed on the roadmap towards 0.8.0.
Once this happens we can release 0.8.0.

No it will be put into the future release. I have a few bugs I need to
fix and I'll get right on this probably within the week or early next
week. The site should be very rick in docos when we're done.

Ahh you found a bug! Great file it JIRA for 0.8.0 and I'll add this to
my list right away.

That's cool I'll make mention of this. Actually if you can add this as
a comment to
DIREVE-62 there's less of a chance for me to forget it.

Right thanks for the heads up Mark.
Also one note about the JIRA in general which has nothing to do with
this email. I may not be a pro with JIRA but use it religously during
these times. It will help us alot.
Thanks,
Alex

Hello,
I'm new to Jira so forgive me for the newbie questions.
Does this mean DIREVE-62 has been fixed in version 0.8.0? If yes, well... I
can't seem to find the docs.
Also, is 0.8.0 a future version or the current version? A quick grep on "0.8"
didn't help.
There seems to be a bug with the property: eve.net.ldap.port=10389 in
eve/eve.properties. 'eve' is in my classpath but the property seems to be
ignored.
I think this is a useful tip that should find its way into the docs so folks
don't have to start eve as root yet still listen to port 389:
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 389 -i eth0 -j REDIRECT --to-port
10389
Note this doesn't affect local TCP requests coming from the same machine so
your local test code or ldap viewer would still have to connect to 10389.
Cheers.
