trunk is broken

Folks, trunk is currently broken.  All the patches waiting to be  
tested by Hudson have failed.  I am in the process of reverting https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-3924

I have reverted HADOOP-3924.  Please resubmit patches for testing as  
necessary.
