PR 41960

On the face of it, Jose Kahan's patch[1] at

http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=20600

looks like a simple and effective fix for PR41960.

Anyone recollect why the file_req check is there?
Is it just an optimisation, and if so, is it essential to
directory listings (or ???) not taking forever?

[1] excluding the last chunk, which is already in /trunk/
