Hi,

A general question about repositories..in what
situations would I need a SpoolRepository object vs a
MailRepository object ? From my understanding Spool
repositories are temporary repositories. 

So, I would like to understand what temporary means.
So, if I restart James, would the spool repositories
go away and the Mail repositories don't ? Please
elborate.

This is your mistake. For a more acurate definition of "spool" See

and remember that instead of "disks" the magnetic medium was originally
tape on big spools, you can see the tape spools in the forground of this

As far as James goes a Spools are are buffered queues.
Incoming mail is put into a buffered queue (a spool) and processed
asynchronously from the I/O.
James uses a spool for each "processor" set up in config.xml to buffer the
input to a processor from the output of the other processors.

Temporary means not long lived, only required for a finite time. James'
spools are *not* temporary, although the mail may only spend a short time
in any spool repository.
