it might be possible to preallocate the log file without blocking the log writes ..
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

         Key: DERBY-521
         URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DERBY-521
     Project: Derby
        Type: Improvement
  Components: Store
    Versions: 10.1.1.1
    Reporter: Suresh Thalamati

During log file switch , the logging system blocks all the writes to the transaction log. One of the tasks during
log switch is preallocation. By doing preallocation without blocking the log writes might improve throughput .
