IMHO the original request was invalide: using a DropDownChoice together with OnChangeAjaxBehavior is bogus.

OnChangeAjaxBehavior is a special solution for TextFields, and it should listen for "inputchange" *and* "change" as it has done previously.
A check as Martin has suggested (warning for 6.x, exception for 7.x) would be the right fix.
