CAS server clients vs application clients

Hey everybody,

 

Hopefully this is my last round of emails involving the differences and
benefits of CAS clients.  One of the last discussions we've had recently
is whether to handle use server-level CAS clients (mod_cas,
Apach2::AuthCAS, ISAPI, etc) or application-level CAS clients (JA-SIG,
Yale, Acegi, etc).  As we aren't a Java-only shop here at LSU, we have
to support a variety of environments.

 

1.	What are the pros and cons of using a server-level CAS client
versus an application-level CAS client?  What hidden issues arise?
2.	How is the community actually using the different clients within
a heterogeneous environment?

 

I really do appreciate any feedback and insight anyone can offer!

PS:  Scott: I wish I could attend the developer's lunch at the upcoming
CAS conference to hear the talks about the clients.  I hope the
