[jira] [Created] (CAMEL-12765) Improve service lifecycle semantics
Guillaume Nodet created CAMEL-12765:
---------------------------------------
Summary: Improve service lifecycle semantics
Key: CAMEL-12765
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CAMEL-12765
Project: Camel
Issue Type: Improvement
Reporter: Guillaume Nodet
While working on camel-core, I found out that the service lifecycle definition and implementation is big dodgy.
In particular:
* the state is kept using multiple AtomicBoolean instead of a single field
* possible thread safety issues as status changes are not synchronized
* incoherence between javadoc and implementation (for example a shut down service is not supposed to be started again)
* not very clear semantic differences between suspended / stopped / shutdown
There are some incoherences: for example stopping the camel context does shutdown child services, but those are started again if the context is started.
