Yes, the version technically can just be any garbage string, but a Maven version string like {{1.3.0-SNAPSHOT}} does imply that 1.2.0 is out and development for 1.3.0 is happening on this branch. To avoid the confusion I would suggest to either work with that convention, or sidestep the issue and set it to a version string which doesn't imply anything like that, e.g. {{development}}.
