Moved over the old OOo archive

Hi at all

I just moved the old OOo archive to the Apache archive server. After
talkback with the infra team, I find out that it's allowed to have old
releases in the apache archive, even the builds are LGPLed. Subversion
has done the same to.

The OOo Archive it's a realy valua part. It's a part of our history, and
so I find it important, that we keep all alive. The old OOo builds are
now on http://archive.apache.org/dist/incubator/ooo/ .

Yery cool to have these releases at hand under Apache.

Thanks for the work, Oliver.

Thats the reason for the two-fold item in the Wiki. Short term to save
the builds at all and long term to buildup a new little mirror network
for legacy and archive builds like it was done in the past.

Please note that the http://archive.apache.org/ server is for historical
archives - things we (the ASF) won't ever delete. It does *not*
replicate to mirrors!

Only the normal /dist directory is on the mirror system. The archive is
not mirrored. Just didn't want people expecting something to mirror
that isn't going to mirror.

Right. That's the reason why I've done it already in June as I also
won't loose this history. Furthermore it's a complete shapshot and
includes also all OOo 3.3.0 and 3.4.0 Beta builds.

I wasn't sure if infra would be happy to store ~180 GB on their disks
that don't belong to ASF. So I've haven't asked but asked the mirror
admin as he has the GB already on disk anyway (see here:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/OpenOffice.org+Migration+Status).

So, now we have 2 places with history. Should be save enough. :-)

Actually the question is how I can submit to either of those archives
(which actually seem to have the same content, as far as the legacy
Italian build are concerned) some even older builds that were removed a
long time ago from the archives to save space but that are still
requested from our users.

These builds are now located in a private PLIO (Italian Native-Lang
Project) archive.

OK, thanks. I've opened
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-4190
as a request, considering Marcus' comment too.

Regards,
   Andrea.

I wouldn't call it an issue but more a request. There is no issue with
the archive. It would be just a question if it's possible to extent the
current install builds with some more.

I have an 79 year old mother who has to use WordIX on DOS :-)

I was not aware that Infrastructure added OOo legacy downloads to http://archive.apache.org/dist/incubator/ooo/

So, I guess the question is what procedure should be used to update the archive with the missing versions from: http://archive.apache.org/dist/incubator/ooo/localized/it/

Looks like there may be an Infrastructure issue.

After just addressing a request from an 81-year-old user who was looking
for his beloved OpenOffice.org 1.1.4 in Italian (yes, I knew you
couldn't imagine...) I now have all old Italian versions available at a
non public download location.

What should I do to have them added back to the archive then? Should I
open an Infrastructure JIRA issue maybe?

At least the stable releases have survived. But if you think that this
is not enough and the localized releases are still needed (you are
right, I cannot imagine it ;-) ) and Infra is fine to provide more
space, then why not.

Really? I think in this kind I'm boring. ;-)

I've just finished and committed:
http://ooo-site.apache.org/download/archive.html

With an additional link on the "index.html" one directory higher.

Maybe we have to rebuild the whole website one day but for the moment it
should be sufficient.

Hm, I've mixed it up with a different thought. I'll create a webpage
with links to the archive mirror server.

Thanks for the hint. :-)

No need for a change as the archive mirror network
(http://archive.services.openoffice.org/pub/openoffice-archive/) is
still working. If not someday we can change it then.

Good work. Thanks!

Are there any links on the website that we should update to point to
this new location?

I've already done this last November. See here:
http://www.openoffice.org/download/archive.html

This webpage can be from from "http://www.openoffice.org/download/"
directly from the link list on the right hand side.

I just noticed this old note fro Raphael.

Should we be linking to the archives from some place on
openoffice.org? I didn't see any links to older versions from
download.openoffice.org. Did I miss something?

No. Subversion uploaded its source tarballs, which were under
a modified ALv1.1. We did not uploade -deps tarballs (which included
LGPL'd neon).
