    Resolution: Won't Fix

It currently seems like autotools will be removed soon, maybe even the release process rebuilt by [~rmiddleton]. So am closing this for now, doesn't seem worth it to keep track of, when a lot of other issues have been closed to reduce the backlog as well.

> release_prepare.sh changes the verison number in configure.ac, but release_purge.sh doesn't seem to change that back. pom.xml and changes.xml on the other hand are manged in both files, so this needs to be checked.
