Thorsten Scherler updated FOR-624:
----------------------------------

    Fix Version: 0.9
       Priority: Minor (was: Major)

> Scope of views
> --------------
>
> Key: FOR-624
> URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FOR-624
> Project: Forrest
> Type: Improvement
> Components: Views
> Versions: 0.8-dev
> Reporter: Gavin
> Priority: Minor
> Fix For: 0.9

>
> Diwaker has questioned whether views are applicable to other output formats such as text and pdf, observing that things like menus and tabs are not relevant in those formats.
> Ross added that many contracts are relevant, especially those that add content nuggets.
> Also relevent, the ability to alter the layout of a text rendering as an example is as important as altering the format of an HTML page.

The title "scope of views" is miss-leading. ;-)

The scope is leading again to an endless discussion and I do not want
this until we have an active dev base around views. I stated the scope
of views in some mails and I think now we have to code more around views
rather then to talk.

Anyway I changed the title of the issue and the priority again.

This is definitely a major issue that will have to be fixed for 0.8 -
read the first sentence of our "50" word description:

Apache Forrest is a publishing framework that transforms input from
various sources into a unified presentation in one or more output formats.

If views are to replace skins then they must provide a means for
producing other formats as well otherwise we are not doing our first
sentence thing.

It is a small job (I believe ;-) so why delay?
