[Bug 55863] New: Create Mac OSX app bundle

https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=55863

            Bug ID: 55863
Summary: Create Mac OSX app bundle
           Product: JMeter
           Version: 2.10
          Hardware: Macintosh
                OS: Mac OS X 10.4
            Status: NEW
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: P2
         Component: Main
          Assignee: issues@jmeter.apache.org
          Reporter: alexander.klimetschek@googlemail.com

Create a Mac OSX app bundle distribution of JMeter. This can be easily done
using Oracle's appbundler ant task [0].

I added this in my github fork of jmeter, see [1] and [2] for a patch file.
This will put the appbundler-1.0.jar into libs/, not sure if it can be
downloaded like all other jars. The bundled app only includes the minimum
(jmeter jar, libs, and bin/*.properties).

Requires Java 1.7 at least. I assume that the ant task should run on all
platforms, but I have only tested it on a Mac.

[Bug 55863] Create Mac OSX app bundle

Sebb <se...@apache.org> changed:

           What |Removed |Added
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
             Status|NEW |RESOLVED
         Resolution|--- |WONTFIX

The appbundler jar copies parts of itself to the target app, in particular it
copies the file JavaAppLauncher.

Unless the copied elements have a different, AL2.0-compatible license (which
seems highly unlikely) this unfortunately means that the ASF cannot distribute
the bundle.

Sorry.

The appbundler jar is licensed under GPL2.0, so cannot be included in any
builds or automatic downloads.

However, *if* it is only needed at build time, it should be OK to use it to
create the package.

The build.xml script will need to be adjusted accordingly.
Something like:
- if the jar is not present, display a message and explain how to get the jar
(and that the jar is GPL2.0).
- if the jar is present, generate the MacOSX package
- add a separate task to download the jar
