Hi!
I've created a very basic archetype for a shindig demo webapp. Attached are the sources and a archetype JAR ready to use. Once the archtype JAR is installed (use mvn install:install-file) one can create a new demo-webapp by executing
mvn archetype:generate -DarchetypeGroupId=org.apache.shindig -DarchetypeArtifactId=shindig-demo-archetype -DgroupId=myGroupId -DartifactId=myArtifactId -Dversion=1.0-SNAPSHOT
You can test the webapp by changing to the newly created directory and executing "mvn jetty:run-war".
The webapp is availabl via http://localhost:8080/

I provided the source of the archetype. It's up to the project's committers (like you Ryan) how to best integrate it with the current shindig project. But I'd say include it.

Martin was right Ryan. So it will be another maven artifact generated by maven and the CI and will be part of the release package.
Thanks to patch from Martin we finally have basic maven archtype for Shindig web app =)
If there is no additional comment about the proposed patch I could commit this EOD tomorrow.

I understand, I know the end user will never touch the source. I am thinking though that if we create a project from the source that when we do a build it will produce a jar. The jar can then be used by the end user to create their project. I would like to keep the source around so if we need to modify anything in the future, we have it.

I tried to import the mvn project and build it but the build failed...maybe I am doing something wrong, I will keep trying.

Martin was right Ryan, that was what I meant. So, as you mentioned before it will be another maven project that could generate jar artifact and also will have its own CI task, and will be part of the release package.
Thanks to patch from Martin we finally have basic maven archtype for Shindig web app =)

Exactly. Just try it out like described above. What you get is the maven build infrastructure for a webapplication ready to use shindig. Included is a single index.html that already renders a gadget.
If you want to build a web-application that uses shindid this would be a perfect starting point.

My fault, I think I was leaving off the install goal.
Excellent job Martin, works like a charm! We should update the container page so it uses the common container APIs instead of the old container feature, but we can do that once the source is checked in. Henry go ahead and check it in!

Hi Ryan!
Do you mean you want the archetype as a "project with the source"? Well, the source is attached to this issue and should be available with the shindig project somehow. But the end-user however won't use this very often. The end-user uses the archtype to create a basic shindig webapp project: a stand-alone maven module, source code of course. This project can then be used as a starting point for your own webapp that uses shindig.
But I'd say that's what Henry was suggesting.

Don't we want the src though? Could we have a project with the source and have some instructions on how to build it? The releases can then have the jar which people can install and run the command on. Would that make sense?

Hi!
I've created a very basic archetype for a shindig demo webapp. Attached are the sources and a archetype JAR ready to use. Once the archtype JAR is installed (use mvn install:install-file) one can create a new demo-webapp by executing
mvn archetype:generate -DarchetypeGroupId=org.apache.shindig -DarchetypeArtifactId=shindig-demo-archetype -DgroupId=myGroupId -DartifactId=myArtifactId -Dversion=1.0-SNAPSHOT
You can test the webapp by changing to the newly created directory and executing mvn
jetty:run-war
The webapp is availabl via http://localhost:8080/
