revised website in source control
Hi,
I've checked the revised website into the source control so it's easier to review and make incremental changes. I made the pages to the home page suggested by Jason and tinkered with the CSS a bit more.
I'm still looking for a volunteer to copyedit the "Overview" "Getting Started" and "Web Application" page. If someone from the Tools project could take a look at that last page, I'd feel better about it.
I tested this on Windows with IE and Firefox. Any Safari users out there want to take a look? Again, this is at:
http://jakarta.apache.org/velocity/temp
Best, WILL

Wow - great comments on the copy. I've incorporated almost all of them and
updated the site.
Thanks!

I was going to carry on nitpicking, but got distracted. Here's my take
on the "Getting Started" page:
1. "Getting Started" paragraph (changes highlighted... note the lower
case at the beginning of each bullet point as you're continuing a sentence):
It's easy to get started with Velocity. The best places to start *begin*
are*:*
* *t*he User's Guide
<http://jakarta.apache.org/velocity/temp/user-guide.html>, which
provides a good overview of what Velocity templates are all about.
* *t*he Developer's Guide
<http://jakarta.apache.org/velocity/temp/developer-guide.html>,
which provides a good reference and discussion of *how to
incorporate* incorporating Velocity into your Java programs and
servlets.
* *t*he VTL Reference Guide
<http://jakarta.apache.org/velocity/temp/vtl-reference-guide.html>,
which is a reference guide for *to* VTL, the Velocity Template
Language.
* *i*f you want to build a web application, be sure to read the Web
Application Guide
<http://jakarta.apache.org/velocity/temp/webapps.html> and then
download the Velocity Tools
<http://jakarta.apache.org/velocity/temp/getting-started.html>
sub-project to use VelocityViewServlet.
And of course, *T*he best place to start is with the examples provided
with *in* the distribution, and *with* the source code itself, which is
included.
2. "Downloading Velocity" paragraph:
Instructions for building Velocity from source can be found on *in* the
Build <http://jakarta.apache.org/velocity/temp/build.html> document.
3. "API Documentation paragraph":
Our API documentation is available online
<http://jakarta.apache.org/velocity/temp/api/index.html>, as part of the
distribution package, and of course, you can generate it yourself from
the included sources *source code*.
