In the shell splitormerge_enabled and splitormerge_switch do not work.

ERROR: uninitialized constant Java::OrgApacheHadoopHbaseClient::Admin::MasterSwitchType
Query the switch's state. You can set switch type, 'SPLIT' or 'MERGE'
Examples:
hbase> splitormerge_enabled 'SPLIT'
Took 0.0305 seconds
hbase(main):077:0> splitormerge_enabled 'MERGE'
