Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: XERCESC-604
Summary: wish: full-blown validator (eg DOMCount++)
       Type: Wish

     Status: Unassigned
   Priority: Minor

    Project: Xerces-C++
 Components:
             Miscellaneous
   Versions:
             2.1.0

   Reporter: Tobias Reif

Environment: Operating System: All
Platform: All

Description:
It would be great if you could provide a full-blown commandline
validator with Xerces-C, eg in the bin/ with DOMCount etc (it could be
DOMCount itself).

It should support catalogs (with DTD and XSD (W3C XML
Schema)) (eg OASIS XML Catalog [1]), accept stdin, and offer
some --dtd option for overriding the URL/path in the doctype (plus an
equiv for XSDs).

See libxml's xmllint and other validators for features that others
might find helpful.

TIA,
Tobi
