[jira] Commented: (LEGAL-2) What is the categorization of MsRL?

Matthieu Riou commented on LEGAL-2:

I read it sort of like CPL, the reciprocality is file based as well and doesn't pollute your own work. Just modifications you do to the original file. So that would make it category B.

The gotcha is that they seem to require that you distribute the source code:

"For any file you distribute that contains code from the software (in source code or binary format), you must provide recipients the source code to that file along with a copy of this license, which license will govern that file."

Usually licenses just require a way to get the source code but this one is pretty explicit about it being along with the license (which must be along with the distro). So that would violate one of the precautions we impose when using category B stuff (only binaries).

All in all I think it's on the borderline between categories B and X. Personally, I would still put it in category B and maybe try to find another way of flagging the source as being reciprocal (like appending the license name to the source zip name or something). But that's a judgement call.
