[VOTE] Release Apache Tomcat 9.0.94
The proposed Apache Tomcat 9.0.94 release is now available for voting.
The notable changes compared to 9.0.93 are:
- If an HTTP/2 client resets a stream before the request body is fully
written, ensure that any ReadListener is notified via a call to
ReadListener.onErrror()
- An Exception being thrown during WebSocket message processing (e.g. in
a method annotated with @onMessage) should not automatically cause the
connection to close. The application should handle the exception and
make the decision whether or not to close the connection.
For full details, see the changelog:
https://nightlies.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-9.0.x/docs/changelog.html
It can be obtained from:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/tomcat/tomcat-9/v9.0.94/
The Maven staging repo is:
https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/orgapachetomcat-1512
The tag is:

Tests pass on:
- Linux (OpenSSL 3.0.2 from Ubuntu 22.04)
- Windows (OpenSSL 3.0.14 - Native 2.0.8 binaries)
- MacOS (Intel) (OpenSSL 3.3.1)
- MacOS (M1 (OpenSSL 3.3.1)
The build is repeatable but not cross-platform repeatable (my fault -
sorry - already fixed for 9.0.x)

It's pretty flexible then. I used Java 17 for the main build, with
javac from the current 22 to do the extra JAR. Soon it won't be
possible to use the current JDK to build as the Java 8 release target
will most likely get removed.

+1 Build is reproducible and all tests pass on Fedora 40 with Java 22,
tcnative-1.3.0, apr-1.7.4, openssl-3.0.14.

+1
Tested on platforms
- RHEL 6, 7, 8 and 9, SLES 11, 12 and 15 and Solaris 10+11 Sparc
using
- JDK 11, 17, 21, 22, 23 (release candidate) and 24 (EA)
from
- Eclipse Adoptium, Azul Zulu, Amazon Coretto, Oracle, RedHat and
OpenJDK (for RC and EAs)
where applicable.
Also tested with
- tcnative 1.3.1, tcnative 2.0.8 and panama
based on
- OpenSSL 3.0.15, 3.1.7, 3.2.3 and 3.3.2.
Build was done with Java 22, reproducibility not checked.
All fine, except for the usual sporadic crashes with tcnative during
shutdown and also the known bunch of test failures with JDK 24. Of
course JDK 24 EA problems are not a showstopper in any way.
Minor nit: the changelog entry for the previous 9.0.93 still has no
release date.
Thanks for RM!
Best regards,
Rainer
