Tried inst2xsd with ~300MB and ~1.1GB files. The first one was processed successfully, whereas the other caused "Exception in thread "main"".

Yesterday the only feedback I got was:
"Exception in thread "main""
Today the tool decided to be more verbose with:
"Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space" and a stack trace.
Increasing the max heap size to 7GB solved the problem, although this is a lot of memory for parsing 1GB file.

Resolution: Cannot Reproduce
Inst2xsd ran fine for me. Can you please provide additional information to reproduce the issue you encountered.
What is the exception?
Can you post the file?
What options did you use when you ran the tool?
