[jira] Created: (INFRA-2270) wiki.apache.org/solr removes data on saves

wiki.apache.org/solr removes data on saves
------------------------------------------

                 Key: INFRA-2270
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-2270
             Project: Infrastructure
          Issue Type: Bug
      Security Level: public (Regular issues)
          Components: MoinMoin
            Reporter: Noble Paul
            Priority: Blocker

After the recent update of http://wiki.apache.org/solr/ wiki When I save data it removes some extra stuff too (not always) . A case in point is the edit on the page http://wiki.apache.org/solr/DataImportHandler . after rev=212. It removed some extra content too.

What makes this worse is the revert functionality does not work it gives a 500 error

I am keeping this as a blocker because it is removing valuable documentation from the site and there is no way to restore it. We are going to release Solr soon and we cannot have a release with this broken documentation.

----------------------------------------------

This happened again with http://wiki.apache.org/solr/DataImportHandler

This is the diff email - http://markmail.org/message/pvo7qqb76ukleqym

Also quoting from Hoss's response to the revert email - http://markmail.org/thread/j3sbfvvezhxyomyj

{quote}
All the previous examples were when email notifications weren't working, so we didn't have any good examples showing hte actaul markup involved ... looking at the diff there is a suspicious " 3E>" at teh start of the deleted chunk. there's also a large new chunk (which doesn't seem to corispond to your comment, so i'm not sure if it was intended, or if MoinMoin was getting confused and pulling it out of an older version, or a differnet section of the doc) that has an odd looking ">>" at the end of the first line.
{quote}

Apparently, this happens only with very large wiki pages (or there may be something wrong with this particular wiki page). Can somebody please help?

>> <joes4> page restored

...i assume that comment refers to the SolrJetty page yonik noticed was missing. I also see some commit emails generated by Joe from http://wiki.apache.org/solr/TestCreatePage suggesting that creating new pages now works, and trivial updates should be sending email (although i can't confirm that: my trivial update of that test page - r27 - didn't generate an email to solr-commits).

I've also tested that reverting seems to work again.

what about the initial bug report of pages getting corrupted (large sections being deleted) on save. Has the cause been fixed (or at least identified so we can try to work around it)

[jira] Commented: (INFRA-2270) wiki.apache.org/solr removes data on saves

>> <joes4> look over http://wiki.apache.org/solr/RecentChanges for recent changes to the wiki

...i don't really understand the context of that comment. I gather from some of the notes joe put in TestCreatePage that RecentChanges wasn't working -- and i guess now it is which is great -- but was that suppose to be in response to my questions?

I'm still wondering about the root issue that was reported here: any idea why pages were getting truncated on save?

FWIW: I tried adding a new link (?DevelopmentEnvironmentTips ) at the end of:
http://wiki.apache.org/solr/HowToContribute

I was able to add the link to the page, but could not create the new page. I assumed I was missing something obvious, but seeing this issue, I decided to add my $.02.

It looks like the "yes, I really want to add this new page" link is broken/missing? Here is the body of the 'new' page (with lack of means to actually add/edit text...?):

This page does not exist yet. You can create a new empty page, or use one of the page templates. Before creating the page, please check if a similar page already exists.

?Action(edit,Create new empty page)

Existing pages with similar names:

?EditTemplates

?LikePages((none))
--------------------- end body of page ---------------

Also, there seems to be a parsing error when trying the gui editor .

Joe Schaefer commented on INFRA-2270:
-------------------------------------

This bug is absolutely magical. After clearing the cache and creating
an edit page, i copied the client-side form data into a file and compared
that to the revisions on the wiki. Sure enough it matched up exactly.
However posting an edit with no changes to the content resulited not
in a rejection message, but actually changed the page in non-trivial
ways. Where the content diff comes from remains a mystery, (i've nuked
the cache at each step along the way, still get spurious changes).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

This happened again with http://wiki.apache.org/solr/DataImportHandler

This is the diff email - http://markmail.org/message/pvo7qqb76ukleqym

Also quoting from Hoss's response to the revert email - http://markmail.org/thread/j3sbfvvezhxyomyj

{quote}
{quote}

Apparently, this happens only with very large wiki pages (or there may be something wrong with this particular wiki page). Can somebody please help?

[Edit] - This happened while I was trying to add a bullet to the "Special Commands" section - http://wiki.apache.org/solr/DataImportHandler#Special_Commands
