The documentation for the native libraries in branch-2 and later is out of date.  It refers to building with ant and autotools, which we no longer do in these branches (we use Maven and cmake instead.)  The dependency list is also woefully out of date, and it talks about being "mainly used on RHEL4, Ubuntu, and Gentoo."
