Looking at what is needed to configure the build environment (https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/HAWQ/Build+and+Install#BuildandInstall-Dependencies) I have an uneasy feeling, that it will add _a lot_ of stuff into the toolchain, that we don't need anywhere else. Also, the heavy reliance on some Python libs coming from whonowswhere, doesn't look very encouraging either.

On top of that, it seems that a number of the packages in this custom repository might not exist anywhere else, so basing an official bigtop toolchain on that is iffy. Will look around to find some substitutes if possible.
