with postgres, the conversion worked:
foodmart=# select c_row, cast(c_int as decimal(28,8)) from data where c_row = 9;
c_row | c_int
-------+----------------------
9 | -2147483648.00000000
(1 row)
foodmart=# select c_row, c_int from data where c_row = 9;
c_row | c_int
-------+-------------
9 | -2147483648
(1 row)
With Drill, the conversion give wrong result:
0: jdbc:drill:schema=dfs> select c_row, c_int from data where c_row = 9;
+------------+------------+
| c_row | c_int |
+------------+------------+
| 9 | -2147483648 |
+------------+------------+
1 row selected (0.199 seconds)
0: jdbc:drill:schema=dfs> select c_row, cast(c_int as decimal(28,8)) from data where c_row = 9;

+------------+------------+
| 9 | 0E-8 |
+------------+------------+
