I'd suggest you find a general Linux list if you need help installing
gcc, as this isn't an Apache-specific problem. :)

yup, it's specifically a gcc problem, red hat suport list is the right 
place for this problem.
(since you have red hat.)
though the problem stemms from the error package list during install.
no errors, then no problems.
