Welcome to Apache's world of IoT

Hi all,

I bet if someone reads this, it will probably be in the archive as the number of subscribers will probably be pretty low at the start.

However someone has to be the first to actually post something here.

Please let me explain the motivation behind this first topic-mailing-list:

We have noticed that a lot of projects in similar topic regions tend to re-invent the wheel. For example did we (guys form the PLC4X project)
Find out the NiFi guys were thinking of starting to work on some drivers for communicating with industrial programmable logic conrtrolers.
Why did they think about doing it? Well because they thought we were only doing Java (Technically we are, but we’re gonna change that pretty soon)

If we had had a mailinglist in which all of us would have been on, we could have started talking about this. Ok … I guess no work besides creating a ticket in Jira was wasted, but I just wanted to use it as a demonstration.

Another thing we noticed quite often, was that we were trying to build an integration into another project in PLC4X. For that it’s usually quite convenient if you can contact people willing to help out. But in order to do this, they need to know that there’s someone looking for help.

We hope that this new list will help at least the IoT related projects. If this model is successful, other topics might adopt it.

Looking forward to some great conversations.

Chris

Hi guys,

I hope I'm not too late to the party but I'm really looking forward coming together with lots of other devs from the area :)

<insert "that's where you're wrong kiddo" meme>

As a corollary- this also serves as a great place for me to remind everyone
to buy tickets to ApacheCon NA and come see the wonderful IoT Track!
