[~marck1991], I couldn't reproduce this bug
Could you please confirm that 'backbutton' handler is called by using this code:
{code:javascript}
document.addEventListener("backbutton", function(e) {
    console.log("backbutton is fired");
    e.preventDefault();
}, false);
{code}

Also it'd be helpful, if you provide some information about your device.

It seems the code is simply ignored and the hardware backbutton works. Reverting to version 1.4.2 solves the problem again and the javascript code does its job so the hardware backbutton is disabled as expected.
