[users@httpd] Apache/1.3.29 + Windows XP Professional == failure to see my mapped drives

Posted by Jon Block <ht...@collegepublisher.com>.
I just got a new computer and I'm trying to set up my development
enviornment. I use Apache/1.3.29 and Windows XP Pro. In my httpd.conf file,
I try to do an "Include O:\apacheconf\cpbpVhost.conf" where "O:" is a
virtual drive... I've tried using both a windows "Mapped" drive, and using
the "subst" utility to point it to where it needs to go. In development,
"O:" actually points to "C:\virtualdrives\odrive", but in production it
points to another server.

For some reason, when I try to start apache, I get:
-------
The Apache service named C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\Apache.exe
reported the following error:
>>> Apache.exe: could not open document config file
o:/apacheconf/cpbpvhost.conf <<<
before the error.log file could be opened.
More information may be available in the error.log file. .
-------

Unfortunately, nothing appears in the error.log file. The problem seems to
be that Apache can't see the virtual O: drive even though it worked fine
under my previous Windows 2000 development server. I even tried setting the
Apache service to use the Administrator login for the machine but still...
no luck.

Any ideas???

Thanks,
Jon

I dont think any webserver is any more or less secure from DOS attacks. It
is what you do at the firewall/router level to prevent DOS attacks.

you can use TCP wrappers to prevent to certain IP addresses from accessing
the webserver, but this is not much usefull in a DDOS (distributed denial
of service)
