Configuration for virtual hosts using Apache 1.3.x, Tomcat 4 and Cocoon 2

I've been experimenting with mod_app but haven't had much luck getting the
virtual host thing to work. I'm storing my web apps outside the tomcat
webapps directory for both domains.

I'm running Apache 1.3.x, and want to be able to transparently redirect any
requests to http://myhost1.com/ and http://myhost2.com/ to port 8080
(actually, the default in the latest release is 8180 in spite of what the
literature says) for each host respectively.

I'd like to see examples for modifications to httpd.conf, server.xml and any
of the cocoon 2 configuration files to achieve this. Can anyone help out
here??

Rob

characters like "<" or ">" comes in xml the textformatter will send it as
it is without giving entity reference like "<".

I use Tomcat4, it has WebDAV support.
The Client is the Explorer on windows. All the users of my site works in
it...

That's an option I considered too. But as Mauricio already knows it's not
usable on my project since the editing will be done by a lot of people on
very different places. that's why I'm going the browser way.

A different approach i'm working with, is XML editing with a application
using the WebDAV interface to edit the database that have the xml
contents... With this, i think i get the power of an application, that
hasn't the limits a web-form has...

I'm actually using JTidy (http://lempinen.net/sami/jtidy/), converting input
from form to XML fragment, and putting it into a DB...
I'm interested on differents approachs...

Dummy proof XML on-line editing

Posted by Bert Van Kets <be...@visitronics.be>.
To complement the Cocoon framework and to give the customer access to the
site navigation and the content of his pages, I would like to add an
on-line XML editor to a Cocoon project.
I want to present the content of the XML file in a HTML form, so that the
owner of the site can modify, add or delete the actual textual
content. XML validation must be done on the server, but will hardly be
necessary since the structure of the XML file is managed by the editor.

Has anybody any idea if there are any tools to achieve this? Preferably in
open source.

Thanks,
Bert

Re: Configuration for virtual hosts using Apache 1.3.x, Tomcat 4 and Cocoon 2

Posted by "Robert J. Lebowitz" <le...@finaltouch.com>.
Okay... I figured this out myself after a little experimentation, and
reading more of the notes in the tomcat and cocoon archives. One of the
more confusing aspects of all this is the way that the mod_webapp works.

In your httpd.conf file (Apache), you need to add the following two
sections:

ServerName site1.mydomain.com
Port 80
WebAppConnection cx warp localhost:8008
WebAppDeploy /path/to/site1/documents  cx  /

<VirtualHost site2.mydomain.com>
   ServerName site2.mydomain.com
   Port 80
   WebAppConnection cx0 warp localhost:8008
   WebAppDeploy /path/to/site2/documents cx0 /
</VirtualHost>

In your server.xml file (Tomcat), you need to add the following snippets in
the <Engine>..</Engine> segment:

<Host name="site1.mydomain.com" debug="0" appBase="webapps">

    <Logger className="org.apache.catalina.logger.FileLogger"
        prefix="site1." suffix=".log" timestamp="true"/>
    <Context path="" docBase="/path/to/site1/documents" debug="0"
reloadable="true" />

</Host>

<Host name="site2.mydomain.com" debug="0" appBase="webapps">

    <Logger className="org.apache.catalina.logger.FileLogger"
        prefix="site2." suffix=".log" timestamp="true"/>
    <Context path="" docBase="/path/to/site2/documents" debug="0"
reloadable="true" />

</Host>

Don't forget to install the mod_webapp module and be sure to fire up tomcat
first, then the apache httpd so that the warp connector has something to
"connect to".

Rob
