Printing PDF using FOP...
Hi,
I am new to fop and I am not sure whether this is the right place to post this
question.
Actually what I intend to do is:
Write an application which will generate a pdf file using fop and then send it
to the printer without user intervention. I am able to generate the pdf file
using fop. It works perfectly. But I am struggling for the past few days as to
how to print the pdf using fop. I went through the mailing list archives and
found some references to AWTRenderer and PCLRenderer but I couldn't work out a
solution. Moreover I didn't find the PCLRenderer in fop 0.17. Is it a new
addition.?
I tried running the PrintCommandLine program in fop but it always gives me an
error:
using SAX parser org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser
using element mapping org.apache.fop.fo.StandardElementMapping
using element mapping org.apache.fop.svg.SVGElementMapping
using property list mapping org.apache.fop.fo.StandardPropertyListMapping
using property list mapping org.apache.fop.svg.SVGPropertyListMapping
building formatting object tree
WARNING: Unknown formatting object
http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform^stylesheet
FATAL ERROR: null
Can somebody please help. My query is how to send the generated pdf document to
the printer to print with the default options.
Thanks,
Hitesh

Printing on legal paper instead of letter
Posted by Wabei <wa...@yahoo.com>.
Hello listers,
I have been trying to figure out this problem and have
given up after trying out several things.
Problem. I have an xsl stylesheet, where I am
specifying my page height, lengths, extents etc, in
cm. I create a pdf file from an xml file using fop,
and then convert the pdf file into ps using acroread
(this is all on a unix platform). When I send this
file to the printer it prints on legal instead of
letter.
I have tried changing my spec to mm, and also changed
to inches, and nothing works. This is what I have
for my page lenght in the different measurements in
the xsl stylesheet.
27.9cm
279mm
11in (for inches)
Any direction will be greatly appreciated.
Wabei Walusiku

AFAIK keep-with-previous is not implement for lists, but tables should support
it, so you could try to use a non visible table for the formatting.

Keep-with-previous
Posted by Falk <fa...@p1.lpz3.siemens.de>.
Hello,
i've got the following list where I included the keep-with-previous="always"
directive in order to prevent
the list from beeing split at the end of the page. However the list does get
split at the end of the page.
Are there any other directives I could use ?
<fo:list-item-body keep-with-previous="always">
<fo:block keep-with-previous="always">
Remark:a
<xsl:value-of select="@REMARK"/>
</fo:block>
</fo:list-item-body>
Thanks a lot !

RTF
Posted by Kin-Yip Tsang <ms...@cs.bham.ac.uk>.
Can anybody here clarify the difference of a point in RTF and a pixel in
FO?
I added an image to a RTF file and looked at its dimensions, it's
134x38pixels.
then i opened the RTF source code to see it's equivalent, it's like
this:
...
\picwgoal2009\pichgoal569
...
\objw2009\objh569
...
so how is 2009x569 twips equivalent to 134x38 pixels?
I also looked at the object data part of the image; it returns tons of
hexadecimal data, and i just don't know how to do the transformation
from FO. Any ideas?

Push some raw postscript into it ... if it prints it out nice you have a
Postscript printer.
Next, try PCL ... if it prints it you have a PCL printer. My money's on
postscript though.

Unless your printer is capable of printing PDF files directly, you need
to convert the PDF content into a format that the printer recognizes,
such as PostScript or PCL or whatever.
See http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=fop-dev&w=2&r=1&s=printer&q=b for a
discussion of how this is done on Windows with Acrobat Reader.
