[jira] [Comment Edited] (LEGAL-659) Guidance for PMC Member Country List

This is correct. I appreciate the connection with our privacy policy - that is precisely why I am here to verify my understanding and responsibilities.

Thanks for this suggestion and sorry if I was not clear. I will be
emailing the PMC members to ask that they help me fulfill this document
request voluntarily. The Cassandra dev@ audience is a significantly
larger group that I don't consider my peer working group in this case. I
would liken it to emailing a rather full football stadium to ask, "where
ya' from?". I wouldn't wish to track the replies from dev@, either, and
it's outside the scope of the request made of me.

I'm primarily involved in project governance these days, aside from
periodic work as a Cassandra user, and release +1s occasionally when I
can test in time to vote :).

I appreciate the advice while working to fill in the blank for my
background.

Kind regards,
Michael

> I would like to know if the Apache Legal team can offer guidance on a task to create an Apache project PMC Member list of the publicly available info, username and full name, from our phone book: [http://people.apache.org/phonebook.html?pmc=cassandra] with the member's Country, as we fill out on the ICLA. (On the form, this field is not highlighted as being bound for public posting, so one can likely assume it to be kept private.)
> My suggestions, questions, and justification for this task:
> * a plain-text file in our PMC private git repository is a reasonable place to store this info, essentially keeping the data private to only the PMC members (public alt: wiki)
> ** public posting is unnecessary for the task - the file will internally note its purpose: for mshuler to document this with the US DoD dept. [TBD] as a work association
> ** some members may not wish this information public for security reasons
> * is it acceptable to ask our PMC private@ list to assist/approve/commit/send me this info for compilation to this text file in the repo? (certainly, they can disapprove inclusion of their info, I just don't know if I am getting into any other issues by simply asking and performing this task.)
> * why? I am a US federal contractor in the security area. It was recently requested that I create the mentioned list, since I maintain a volunteer work association with and regular email conversations, etc. with a tech group with non-US citizens in the mix.
> ** It is to document this long-term and ongoing relationship in my background. To the best of my understanding, the info is for clarifying info about me, not any of the members, if that is a concern. I will honor any member's wish for anonymity of their personally identifiable information, if they desire it.
> * I am open to any other suggestions, if there have been other Apache contributors in a similar clearance role
> * next steps:
> ** research disclosure  rules (there are fed. rules on noting the dept/project when communicating something like this; mshuler's todo)
> ** draft email to private@ for the project and ask if they can help me document - dependency: yay/nay on working on this task
> * my approximate deadline: a month from this ticket creation
> Thank you!
