Re: build.xml, WAS: Re: [VOTE] Release JSPWiki version 2.9.0-incubating

Posted by Michael Gerzabek <mi...@gmx.net>.

Regards,
Michael

Re: build.xml, WAS: Re: [VOTE] Release JSPWiki version 2.9.0-incubating

Posted by Juan Pablo Santos Rodríguez <ju...@gmail.com>.
Hello Michael,

rc2 is just a (shorter) name for the tag; if you take a look at Changelog,
2.9.0-incubating-1, it states second ASF release candidate. First one was
voted at the very beginning of this thread (2.9.0-incubating-0). On the
other side, the incubating suffix is needed for every release made for an
apache incubator project, hence the different names.

rc2 is holded at
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/jspwiki/tags/jspwiki_2_9_0 It's
not named *_rc2 only because I just took the example of 2.6.0 tag, which
had a rc1 and the release itself. This ought to be the same. If the need of
another RC arises, it's just matter of renaming this tag to
jspwiki_2_9_0_rc2 and generating a new one (if I'm mistaken, please anyone
*do* correct me).

regards and thanks for your time on testing :-)

Re: build.xml, WAS: Re: [VOTE] Release JSPWiki version 2.9.0-incubating

Posted by Michael Gerzabek <mi...@gmx.net>.
Hello Juan Pablo,

yes, I can confirm, a build against tag jspwiki_2_9_0 creates
JSPWiki-2.9.0-incubating-1-bin.zip and companions.

Where comes the rc2 from? It isn't mentioned anywhere. Is it important?
Why different names for just one thing?

Best regards,
Michael

Re: build.xml, WAS: Re: [VOTE] Release JSPWiki version 2.9.0-incubating

Posted by Juan Pablo Santos Rodríguez <ju...@gmail.com>.
Hello Michael,

thanks for your time on testing the rc :-) However, can you run the same
tests against
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/jspwiki/tags/jspwiki_2_9_0 ? That
ought to generate JSPWiki-2.9.0-incubating-1-bin.zip and companions, which
should be rc2.. Thanks again!

best regards,
juan pablo

Re: build.xml, WAS: Re: [VOTE] Release JSPWiki version 2.9.0-incubating

Posted by Michael Gerzabek <mi...@gmx.net>.
Hi,

did checkout the respective version jspwiki_2_9_0_rc1 with Eclipse,
installed win32 svn client 1.7.5 from ASF, installed and started Apache
James 2.3.2, added a user with my login name to the mail users (as
assumed by org.apache.wiki.util.MailUtilTest), started build with "ant
signeddist" and got a release JSPWiki-2.9.0-incubating-0-bin.zip and
corresponding .MD5 and src.zip files.

Regards,
Michael

Re: build.xml, WAS: Re: [VOTE] Release JSPWiki version 2.9.0-incubating

Posted by Juan Pablo Santos Rodríguez <ju...@gmail.com>.
Hi,

I've been able to run "ant signeddist" without any problems. I've also
checked svn status on the new tag, just to ensure that I didn't left any
files behind a while ago, and there aren't neither modified nor pending
files :-?

Googlin a bit on the stacktrace, and it might seem that either port 9001
(hsqldb default port) was up before running the tests or hsqldb jar is
missing/unreadable (they seem to me weird causes, though). Is someone else
reproducing this error?

regards,
juan pablo

Well, can you just create the tag and let me know which tag to build and sign?

Re: build.xml, WAS: Re: [VOTE] Release JSPWiki version 2.9.0-incubating

Posted by Juan Pablo Santos Rodríguez <ju...@gmail.com>.
Hi,

now that I did have a while to check current tag, Janne I think I've
misspoke about the tag contents. I was intending that the new tag contained
the build.xml fix plus JSPWIKI-683... My apologies on not having explained
myself properly :-S

So, as for now, we have two options:
a.- vote on current tag (2.9.0-incubating-0), no need of generating new
artifacts.
b.- generate a new tag (can do it myself) with JSPWIKI-683. If we go
through this option, we could also add the fix for JSPWIKI-728 and call a
vote on 2.9.0-incubating-2.

Option b.- would mean generating new artifacts. It's not like they are
mandatory in order to run the vote, we vote on a tag and the artifacts are
there for convenience; however, if the vote succeeds, which seems to me
likely to happen, we will have to generate them anyway.

WDYT?

regards,
juan pablo

So this seems (sort of) lazy consensus towards rolling + voting on another
rc. I'll withdraw the ongoing vote in 60 minutes from now, so anyone
feeling that the vote should continue can express it before closing it.

Re: build.xml, WAS: Re: [VOTE] Release JSPWiki version 2.9.0-incubating

Posted by Juan Pablo Santos Rodríguez <ju...@gmail.com>.
I think that (someone please correct me if I'm mistaken) would imply
withdrawing the current vote, roll a new RC and restart the vote on this
new RC.

If this is ok with all, then we should:
1.- svn rename tag 2.9.0 to 2.9.0-rc-0
2.- make a new 2.9.0 tag from trunk (2.9.0-incubating-2?), so JSPWIKI-683
gets included as well, with the required changes on build.xml
3.- recast the vote stating that this is the 2nd rc of 2.9.0

I would go +0.1 on this procedure [1], so, anyone else, what do you think?

hmm you beat me by a second! I'll go with what the majority expresses: as
you say I don't think that it should be a stopper for current 2.9.0, but,
on the other hand, it would be nice to have both build.xml corrected and
JSPWIKI-683 included..

Hi Janne,

it's an essential requirement to be able to reproduce exactly the released artifacts from source. In this case, since only the build.xml seems to be affected, it's not that dramatic IMO. However, we could seize the opportunity and restart the vote, voting on a 2.9.0-incubating-1 with a correct build.xml and JSPWIKI-683 fixed.
What do the others think?

 Florian

build.xml, WAS: Re: [VOTE] Release JSPWiki version 2.9.0-incubating

Posted by Florian Holeczek <fl...@holeczek.de>.
Hi all,

during my checks, I wasn't able to reproduce the source zip file due to one single point.
Could you please check whether the correct build.xml gets included in your environments? Over here, it seems to always include the one from the trunk, although I made svn.tag = tags/jspwiki_2_9_0
