[jira] [Commented] (KAFKA-2273) Add rebalance with a minimal number of reassignments to server-defined strategy list

Edoardo Comar commented on KAFKA-2273:
--------------------------------------

Working on this with [~vahid] - propagating the overall global assignment solution of every consumer to every consumers in a group
by using the userdata field in the org.apache.kafka.clients.consumer.internals.PartitionAssignor.Assignment.
This way, even if the leader dies, any other consumer on becoming the leader has access to the last computed assignment for everyone.

> Add a new partitions.assignment.strategy to the server-defined list that will do reassignments based on moving as few partitions as possible. This should be a quite common reassignment strategy especially for the cases where the consumer has to maintain state, either in memory, or on disk.
