Congratulations to log4j and Tomcat 3.2!

If no one has done it yet, I am going to put this up on Jakarta news.

Thanks Glenn. The results of the JavaWorld selection is certainly good news although we probably were plain lucky. There are other very useful tools out there and in particular in the Jakarta project. Ant comes to mind.

I keep saying we and us because log4j is the result of a collective effort. Mathias Boagert is doing much needed but thankless house keeping work as well as contributing enhancements. Anders Kristensen rewrote large chunks of log4j to use JavaBeans style of configuration, resulting in smaller and better code although we had to keep old code for backward compatibility. Paul Glezen keeps reminding us of the pitfalls in deploying log4j in the "real" world. Just as importantly, hundreds of users keep making suggestions, supplying patches, finding subtle and not so subtle bugs. I just love it even if it is not easy to separate the wheat from the chaff.

By the way, log4j is just a finalist. There is *at least* 66% chance that it will not win. Cheers, Ceki
