Accessing Registry

I've created a registry, but I'm confused on the methods to access that
registry I've created. In my case I'm not using the RegistryBuilder (I
understand that) but instead I'm using the HiveMindFilter on a simple
servlet. I see it says there's a reference to the registry in the
request context session, but is that the way to access it? I guess I
don't understand what options I have for accessing the constructed
registry. This sample I've made is just a simple servlet, but I use
Tapestry in my projects and the session doesn't seem like the method to
use. Can someone tell me where I'm going wrong, and maybe some examples?

Re: Accessing Registry

Posted by Diego <di...@gmail.com>.
You have to define a type in the property-specification.

I really like how this works, a good way to start using Hivemind in
Tapestry, thanks Howard.

Re: Accessing Registry

Posted by mike jones <mi...@gmail.com>.
are you sure the wiki is correct?
if i use a method to access the service like the one on the wiki..

public abstract TimeService getTimeService();

it throws an exception because contains the TimeService return type and not
Object type.

Changing the method as below and casting it to the Service type when used
fixes this.

public abstract Object getTimeService();

Actually that answers another question I had. When I start using the

HiveMind or is my access and use of HiveMind still going to be separate
from Tapestry?

What version of Tapestry are you using? I think in the latest version, the
HiveMind support is built-in (I think it creates the "default" registry), so
you can access the registry via the Tapestry API. Don't quote me on that,
though. Howard?

Oh, is see. I tried that and it's another way, but it's still using the
request. I don't normally use those in Tapestry. Is that the best method?

Yes, maybe to point it out in the summary part of the Javadoc. But I
must say it was my mistake for not looking in the Javadoc to start with.
Really if there was something under the "Tutorials and Information -
HiveMind Servlet Filter" section that would have helped a lot. Over all
I'm most interested in best practice tip for use. When learning new
things like HiveMind I like to follow instruction then find my own
flavor after I've learned it.

Justin,
No problem! The documentation doesn't quite make this obvious enough IMHO.
I'll check in a change to the JavaDocs that points out the static method.
Would that have helped?

There's a static helper method on the HiveMindFilter class for obtaining the
reference to the Registry.

I've created a registry, but I'm confused on the methods to access that
registry I've created. In my case I'm not using the RegistryBuilder (I
understand that) but instead I'm using the HiveMindFilter on a simple
servlet. I see it says there's a reference to the registry in the request
context session, but is that the way to access it? I guess I don't
understand what options I have for accessing the constructed registry. This
sample I've made is just a simple servlet, but I use Tapestry in my projects
and the session doesn't seem like the method to use. Can someone tell me
where I'm going wrong, and maybe some examples?
