[VOTE] 10.10.1.1 release

Please test-drive the 10.10.1.1 candidate, then vote on whether to
accept it as a Derby release. The candidate lives at:

http://people.apache.org/~rhillegas/10.10.1.1/

The polls close at 5:00 pm San Francisco time on Monday, April 8.

10.10.1.1 is a feature release, described in greater detail here:
http://wiki.apache.org/db-derby/DerbyTenTenOneRelease

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this release.

Regards,
-Rick

+1 from me too. I did adhoc testing along with buddy testing and the
release candidate behaved as expected/documented. The failure about
the triggers DERBY-5866 is an interesting one but I have not been able
to reproduce it after repeated runs. I have put in some extra
debugging info in it which hopefully will help to debug the problem if
the test fails again.

Thanks Rick for volunteering to be the release manager.

my vote: +1

I have spent the extra week looking at regression test failures against
10.10 and trunk and am now satisfied that 10.10 can go out. While we
are not at 0 failures on nightly testing, we are now I think as good
as we have been. I especially thank Knut for his help with DERBY-6092.

I also reviewed the 50 or so bugs reported just against 10.10 and trunk
for stopper regressions, and after the bug resolutions this week I
no longer consider what is left enough to stop the release.

  I do believe the
top of the 10.10 branch is now better than the release candidate, but
I am ok with releasing this candidate, and hopefully delivering a follow
on 10.10 release later this year.

Thanks rick for putting the release together, and for extending the
vote for extra testing.

The polls will remain open for another week so that we can continue
analyzing test results. I will continue counting votes through 5:00 pm
San Francisco time on Monday April 15. Thanks for everyone's help in
testing this release candidate.

+1
I did some initial testing on z/OS and have done some function
compatibility testing (still incomplete) but have so far only found room
for better documentation and release notes and no serious code issues to
be addressed in 10.10. I feel more comfortable that the root causes of
the regression test failures have been identified and that there is a
fix waiting in the branch for DERBY-6092. I don't think we need to
reroll the release for that.

The platform test results for 10.10.1 look better to me than the
corresponding results for 10.9.1 and 10.8.1. I would not hold up this
release because of the unresolved checklist items here:

My vote: +1

The results from the platform testing look good:
http://wiki.apache.org/db-derby/TenTenOnePlatformTesting

My manual testing of the release candidate has not revealed any
problems, and I think 10.10.1.1 is a good improvement over the previous
releases.

I checked the docs for both the db-derby-10.10.1.1-bin.tar.gz and
db-derby-10.10.1.1-bin.zip bundles, and they appear to be correct and
complete.

+1 to this release; thanks all for the hard work!

I share the community's concern with DERBY-6092; however I
think that JDK 1.5 is quite old now, and users who might
encounter DERBY-6092 can find several workarounds, and can
also simply grab the fix from the 10.10 branch.

It's also fine with me if we wait to pick up that fix and
create a new release.

So I'm +1 either way :)

thanks,

bryan

+1 My testing has not popped up any very scary regressions, and I think
this version has some valuable fixes and new functionality.

I've also a question about testing
In the recent test reports there ist no JDK8 included, also the 10.10
release support this
Any ideas or clarification, why this release is not testes autmaticly with
JDK8?

I have started but not completed my buddy testing and will move it over
to the RC instead of my sandbox. We used to always do buddy testing on
the RC but ended up with too many RC's. There are definite advantages
though to using the actual doc and bits so I think if others are still
buddy testing it would be good to move over to the RC.

There are still three unfinished buddy testing items in
http://wiki.apache.org/db-derby/DerbyTenTenOneRelease. Is this a cause
for concern?

Hmm I guess for a formal vote I shouldn't use fractional yes/nos.... so
I'll change that to +1.
I'd sleep better if we knew the root cause of DERBY-6092, but on
balance, the release is good improvement
and it would be good to get it in user hands. We must expect an update
release anyway.

+0.9

I think this release is up to par for the course. I'd like to see the
root cause of the increased frequency of DERBY-6092, though.
("testPositionAgressive(org.apache.derbyTesting.functionTests.tests.jdbcapi.BlobClob4BlobTest)j
