I was trying to get Solr working on my client's Dreamhost VPS, and unfortunately, they have allow_url_fopen off which is required to use file_get_contents.  Perhaps we should get the _rawGet and _rawPost methods to be able to use curl / fsockopen to make requests so the tool can be more widely deployed.
